EUSTIS, Fla. — Police have released the identity of the woman killed on Lakeshore Drive Friday morning. Tracy Schievenin, 48, was riding a bicycle southbound on Lakeshore Drive, approaching the intersection of Eustis Road when she was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle, according to Eustis Police Department. TAVARES, Fla.— Tavares Police Department is investigating a crash that killed a man Sunday. Blake Sawyer, 21, of Tavares, was riding a dirt bike on Dead River Road shortly before 12:15 p.m. when he attempted to pass vehicles using the shoulder, according to a preliminary investigation, Tavares Police Department Public Information Officer Courtney Sullivan said. LEESBURG, Fla. — A Leesburg man was killed and his passenger seriously injured after the pickup truck they were in crashed into a semi-truck’s trailer as it backed into a private driveway before daybreak Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Shortly after 5:45 a.m., the 57-year-old man from Leesburg was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 southbound on County Road 473, near Lake Eustis Drive, when he struck the left side of the trailer of a 2016 semi-truck that was blocking the roadway while backing into a private driveway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Fatal crash closes CR 473 Monday morning

LEESBURG, Fla. — County Road 473 is shut down as the Florida Highway Patrol investigates a fatal crash that occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Monday. The crash at County Road 473 and Lake Eustis Drive involves a 2016 semi-truck and a 2005 Ford F-150. The driver of the F-150 was killed and had not been identified at press time, according to FHP. A passenger in the F-150 was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the semi-truck, a 67-year-old man and a 63-year-old man, both from Arkansas, were not injured.

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a Wildwood teen Tuesday night while he was crossing State Road 44. A 21-year-old man from Lady Lake was driving a Toyota Tacoma eastbound on State 44 near Wildwood, shortly before 10 p.m. when a 16-year-old boy attempted to cross the roadway west of County Road 229, according to FHP. TAVARES, Fla.—The trial of the man accused of killing a Leesburg store owner is scheduled to begin this week, according to court records. Alex Lopez, 26, is accused of gunning down Raied “Ray” Shihadeh, 51, during a robbery at Fast Stop Superette, 3702 Picciola Road, on May 30, 2024 and fleeing the scene. Shihadeh was airlifted to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Winter Haven man killed in Thanksgiving Day crash in South Lake County

FOUR CORNERS, Fla.—A Winter Haven man died Thursday afternoon after a possible medical episode caused him to crash his Jeep Wrangler, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Just before 5:30 p.m., the 72-year-old man was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 27, south of Ruby Red Boulevard, in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, when he ran of the road, hit an electrical box and entered a ditch, FHP said. Mount Dora man killed in Sumter County crash Saturday

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. —A Mount Dora man was killed after he crashed into a tractor-trailer in Sumter County late Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Just after 11:15 a.m., a 63-year-old Mount Dora man was driving a Toyota Prius southbound on State Road 471 north of State Road 50 when he crossed the center line and struck a tractor-trailer “nearly head-on,” FHP said. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 32-year-old Hialeah Gardens man, was not injured.

Investigation underway after body found in Eustis field, no foul play suspected

EUSTIS, Fla.—Eustis Police Department is investigating after a woman’s body was found Monday afternoon near a busy commercial and residential area. “It appears to be a natural death,” EPD Chief Craig Capri told Inside Lake. A passerby reported finding the woman’s body in a field near behind Tires Plus, 2000 South Bay Street, around 1 p.m. Monday. FWC identifies boater found in Lake Harris Friday

LEESBURG, Fla.—The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has identified the man found deceased in Lake Harris Friday. Thomas “Tommy” Griffin, of Leesburg took his jon boat out on Lake Harris Thursday night and it was discovered empty around 9 a.m. Friday, FWC Officer Chad Weber told Inside Lake Saturday.  FWC and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to Singletary Park on South 14th Street in Leesburg and began searching for Griffin.  Around 7:30 pm.
