UMATILLA, Florida—A 39-year-old woman was speeding before she crashed her car into a tree and it burst into flames in unincorporated Umatilla, witnesses told the Florida Highway Patrol. ORMOND BEACH, Florida—The female person of interest in last week’s double homicide in Altoona died Friday, just a day after the slayings, according to Ormond Beach Police Department. Samantha Butler, age unknown, and Roger Myles Gilbert, 35, fled a traffic stop in Ormond Beach shortly before noon Friday and crashed in an Ormond Beach KFC parking lot. TAVARES, Florida—A Leesburg man serving a 270-day sentence for domestic battery by strangulation and deprivation of 9-1-1 was found with a homemade shank in his jail cell and is last week, according to an arrest affidavit. CLERMONT, Florida—The Florida Highway Patrol is on the scene of a fatal crash on Hammock Ridge Road in Clermont, according to FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi. The crash happened around 9:20 a.m. Monday and involved a 2003 Dodge Ram 1550 and a 2017 Mack truck on eastbound Hammock Ridge Road near Fox Chase Drive.
