TAVARES, Fla. — For 25 years, LovExtension has quietly changed lives one grocery bag, one roll of toilet paper and one act of kindness at a time.
On Thursday afternoon, Bay and Lake Pharmacy had the privilege of attending the organization’s 25th anniversary celebration, and what we witnessed was nothing short of extraordinary.
Behind the mission are two remarkable women whose compassion has inspired an army of volunteers dedicated to serving others. During a tour of the facility, we learned the staggering scope of their work. LovExtension currently serves nearly 1,700 clients throughout our community and The Villages, delivering weekly groceries, toiletries and other essentials many of us take for granted.
But the numbers tell only part of the story.
Each week, the organization spends more than $5,000 on food and essential supplies for individuals and families who might otherwise go without basic necessities. To many of their clients, something as simple as toilet paper, shampoo or a bag of groceries can mean the difference between despair and dignity.
What stood out most, however, wasn’t the operation itself. It was the people behind it.
Every volunteer we met shared the same purpose: to love others through service. They don’t see the people they help as statistics or “the less fortunate.” They see them as neighbors worthy of respect, compassion and care.
Perhaps the most remarkable fact of all is this: in 25 years of service, not a single person involved has accepted a paycheck—not the volunteers and not even the founders.
In a world often dominated by stories of division and hardship, LovExtension offers a different example—one of generosity, sacrifice and unwavering love. For a quarter-century, they have shown up week after week, asking for nothing in return and proving that the most powerful force in any community is ordinary people choosing to care for one another.
Some organizations provide assistance. LovExtension provides hope.
After spending just one afternoon with them, it was impossible to leave without believing there is still so much good in the world.
