SORRENTO—A 16-year-old boy was killed, and his four passengers sent to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash in Sorrento on the night before Spring Break begins for Lake County Schools, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The teenager, of Sorrento, was driving a 2008 Ford Expedition northbound on County Road 437, approaching Plymouth Hollow Circle, around 10:20 p.m. Thursday, FHP Lt. Kim Montes said in a press release. He lost control of the SUV and struck a light pole on the north shoulder of Plymouth Hollow Circle; the SUV collided with hedges at 2400 Plymouth Hollow Circle and continued until it hit a tree. The boy later died at AdventHealth Apopka and the passengers, all boys, ages 16, 15, 14 and 11, all of Sorrento, were transported to AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares and treated for minor injuries. All the occupants, including the driver, were wearing their seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation, Montes said.
