MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Leesburg man was killed and a Eustis woman was critically injured in a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon on County Road 42 in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 30-year-old Leesburg man was driving a sedan westbound near Southeast 105th Avenue when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a pickup truck around 1:45 p.m., FHP said.
The impact scattered debris across the roadway, and a second sedan struck the debris.
The Leesburg man was pronounced dead at the scene. One of his passengers, a 27-year-old Eustis woman, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
A male passenger fled the scene, according to FHP.
The driver of the pickup, a 32-year-old Summerfield man, and his passenger, a 4-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the second sedan, a 38-year-old Summerfield woman, and her four passengers were not injured.
The crash closed County Road 42 for about three hours, and remains under investigation.
