EUSTIS, Fla. — A tip from an anonymous witness during the African-American Heritage Festival at Carver Park led officers to a teenager who police say was carrying a loaded AR-15-style rifle concealed on his person Saturday afternoon, according to Eustis Police Department Chief Craig Capri.
Around 3:45 p.m., the witness approached two EPD officers and reported seeing the teen, later identified as 17-year-old Jarvis Smith, with what appeared to be a rifle concealed in his right pant leg, Capri said. Officers located Smith at Bates Avenue and Wall Street and detained him. During the detention, an officer saw the black buttstock of a rifle visible from Smith’s right side.
The Anderson Manufacturing AR-15-style rifle was removed and rendered safe; one live round was in the chamber, and the attached Magpul magazine contained 23 live rounds, Capri said.
Smith was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a person under 18.
