LADY LAKE, Fla. — Lady Lake police are asking for the public’s help following a fatal pedestrian crash early Tuesday.
Shortly before 3:30 a.m., the driver of a gray 2023 Toyota Tacoma was traveling on U.S. Highway 27 near Hartsock Mill Road when she saw a man wearing dark clothing and standing in the middle southbound lane, according to Town of Lady Lake Communications Director Elisha Pappacoda.
There are no streetlights in the area, Pappacoda said.
The driver attempted to avoid the man but was unable to and struck him. She stopped and called for help while her passenger checked on the victim.
A second vehicle then struck the man and continued southbound without stopping, according to police.
The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was transported to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lady Lake Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the second vehicle to call 352-751-1560 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
Officer Dennis Pranouskes is investigating the crash.
