MINNEOLA, Fla. — A Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot a suspected car burglar early Thursday after finding the suspect inside the car and chasing them through a yard, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the area of Cumberland Circle around 3:45 a.m. for a car burglary in progress. A deputy arrived and found the suspect inside the car, Deputy Stephanie Earley said. The suspect ran through the yard, and the deputy caught up after a short chase.
The sheriff’s office said the deputy shot the suspect but did not say what led to the shooting. The suspect was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, Earley said. No deputies were injured
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, and the deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review. Both are standard procedure.
Earley said the suspect is facing charges of burglary of a conveyance and resisting without violence. Neither the deputy nor the suspect was identified.
