EUSTIS, Fla. — A Eustis father is behind bars, accused of helping his teenage son evade law enforcement following a double murder in DeLand, DeLand Police Department announced Friday.
Daytron W. Etkins, 41, was arrested shortly after 6:45 a.m. Friday at his Bates Avenue home. Detectives also executed a search warrant at the residence with the assistance of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, according to DeLand police.
Etkins is charged with accessory after the fact in connection with an investigation involving his 17-year-old son, Keyan Rundell.
Rundell is accused of murdering Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18. Police said the three knew each other.
Officers responded to a vacant industrial property at 213 West New York Avenue, DeLand, around 10:40 p.m. July 29 after receiving a report of two deceased people. They found Rose and Campbell shot to death.
Investigators identified Rundell as a person of interest after reviewing surveillance video from the scene. During a search warrant executed Saturday, detectives recovered clothing they believe Rundell was wearing during the killings, as well as an e-bike, police said.
Authorities arrested Rundell for two counts of second-degree murder in Manatee County on Tuesday.
“Working with the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service, investigators tracked Rundell to the West Coast. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and Volusia County Sheriff’s Office also provided critical assistance throughout the investigation,” DeLand police said in a social media post.
Etkins is being held at the Lake County Jail on $100,000 bond.
