MOUNT DORA, Fla. — An Orlando man is facing multiple charges after police say he crashed into a fire hydrant, ran from officers and discharged a firearm while intoxicated last week.
Around 5 a.m. June 20, Mount Dora police officers observed a suspicious vehicle near Limit Avenue and North Unser Street while Lake County dispatch received a 911 call about the same vehicle “parked under suspicious circumstances” at a nearby business on U.S. Highway 441, according to an arrest affidavit.
The caller told dispatch a nude woman exited the vehicle before it abruptly drove away. Officers later determined the woman was not a victim and had been engaged in consensual sexual activity with the driver prior to law enforcement’s arrival, according to the the affidavit.

Police said the vehicle pulled into the driveway of a business under construction on Limit Avenue, where it struck a fire hydrant, disabling the vehicle. As an officer approached with emergency lights activated, the driver, identified as Richard A. Rohan Campbell, 30, of Orlando, fled on foot. During the pursuit, an officer heard a single gunshot.
Campbell tripped and fell after a brief chase and was taken into custody. He showed signs of extreme intoxication and repeatedly said he was drunk, the affidavit states. He was transported to AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares for a medical evaluation.
Officers searched the area and found a Glock 19 Gen 5 about 10 feet from the abandoned vehicle. Evidence indicated the firearm had discharged inside the vehicle, with a bullet striking the dashboard before exiting through the front passenger door. Officers also learned Campbell had prior felony convictions and was on active probation for obstruction.
Campbell was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, resisting an officer without violence, negligent discharge of a firearm while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage. He was transported to the Lake County Jail, where he was held on no bond until he was transferred to Brevard County Saturday for the probation violations.
