LADY LAKE, Fla. — A St. Augustine man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 27/441 in Lady Lake Wednesday morning.
Anthony Heine, 36, was hit by a black Hyundai Sonata around 5 a.m. while crossing U.S. Highway 27/441 in the crosswalk at Wales Plaza, Town of Lady Lake Communications Director Elisha Pappacoda said.
The driver of the Hyundai, Eunice Young, 65, of Lady Lake, told Lady Lake Police Department officers she was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 27/441 and had a green traffic light when she “suddenly felt a severe impact” and realized she had struck someone. The impact threw Heine nearly 70 feet from the crosswalk, where he was found breathing and unresponsive, Pappacoda said.
Heine was transported to an Ocala hospital, and was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation remains ongoing and no citations had been issued at press time.
