CLERMONT, Fla.—A Saint Cloud man was killed in a chain-reaction crash that ejected him from his SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
Shortly before 3:45 p.m., a 59-year-old man was driving a 2015 Genesis GV80 southbound on Florida’s Turnpike in the inside lane, south of North Hancock Road. He went off the road into the center median, which is an active construction zone, FHP said, and struck a construction tractor being operated by a 55-year-old Summerfield man. The impact caused the Genesis to rotate back into the inside lane and collide with a 2015 Chevrolet Trax being driven by a 30-year-old Orlando man.
The driver of the Genesis was ejected and transported to South Lake Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The tractor operator and the Chevrolet driver sustained minor injuries.
A fourth vehicle, a 2024 Dodge Charger, struck debris from the crash while traveling southbound in the outside lane. The driver, a 25-year-old Clermont man, was not injured.
