LEESBURG, Fla.—The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is investigating the death of a man found in Lake Harris in Leesburg Friday.
Around 9 a.m. Friday, someone reported finding an unattended boat, and FWC and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded and began searching, FWC Officer Chad Weber told Inside Lake.
Authorities spent the day searching the area near Singletary Park on South 14th Street in Leesburg. Around 7:30 pm., LCSO’s helicopter, Eagle One, found the man deceased, according to Weber. The man’s name and cause of death have not been released, pending confirmation of notification of next of kin and findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Through its preliminary investigation, FWC discovered the man took the jon boat out Thursday evening, and officers are still investigating what led to the man’s death, Weber said.
