Tavares police investigating single-vehicle fatal crash

TAVARES, Fla—Tavares Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a Tavares man Tuesday morning.

A passerby located a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck off State Road 19 at South Eichelberger Road just before 6 a.m. and called TPD. Officers responded and found the driver, Anthony Torres, 64, deceased on the scene; he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash is still under investigation, but TPD believes Torres was traveling southbound on State Road 19, left the roadway and struck a tree, TPD Detective Caitlin Diaz said in an email. It is unknown what time the crash occurred, the passerby who found the truck did not witness the crash, she said.
