Paisley Bicyclist Dies from Injuries Sustained in Pine Lakes Crash

PINE LAKES, Fla.—The bicyclist injured in a crash with a semi-truck Wednesday has died.

Terry Cowart, 45, of Paisley was riding a bicycle when he attempted to cross State Road 44 near Spruce Drive and collided with a semi-truck with a trailer attached shortly after 8:15 a.m.

The truck was traveling on State Road 44 shortly after 8:15 a.m. Wednesday when Cowart attempted to cross State Road 44 in the direct path of the semi, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Tara Crescenzi told Inside Lake. The truck driver, a 55-year-old man from Kissimmee, swerved to avoid Cowart, and the truck overturned on the south shoulder of the road near a Circle K and a Dollar General.

“The back end of the trailer caused (Cowart) to be thrown from the bicycle,” Crescenzi said in an email.

Cowart was airlifted to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford and he succumbed to his injuries Friday; the truck driver was not injured.
