Fatal crash shuts down southbound Turnpike near Clermont

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story misidentified one of the vehicles involved as a tractor-trailer; it was a construction tractor.  CLERMONT, Fla.—A fatal crash has shut down all southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near Clermont. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 3:40 p.m. and involves four vehicles—a 2015 Genesis GV80, a construction tractor, a 2015 Chevrolet Trax and a 2024 Dodge Charger; at least one person was killed. All southbound lanes are closed at mile marker 277 while FHP investigates.

Georgia Man Accused of Shooting Friend as they Travel on the Turnpike near Clermont Sunday Night

CLERMONT, Fla.—A Georgia man is being held in the Lake County Jail on no bond after being accused of shooting his friend as they traveled on Florida’s Turnpike late Sunday night. The Florida Highway Patrol asked for assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in reference to a man stopping vehicles and asking for help. Turnpike Crash Claims 2 Lives Saturday

CLERMONT, Fla.—The Florida Highway Patrol in investigating a crash that killed two people Saturday afternoon on Florida’s Turnpike in Clermont. The crash, involving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, occurred at 2:30 p.m. near mile marker 280 in the southbound lanes and killed the driver and one passenger; a second passenger was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, according to Trooper Migdalisis Garcia.
