Leesburg High School Student Found With Gun In His Backpack

LEESBURG, Florida—A Leesburg High School student was arrested Friday after he was found with a loaded gun in his backpack, according to an arrest affidavit.

Acting on a tip, an LHS school resource officer searched the backpack of Jamonte J’Quan Chambliss, 18, around 8:45 a.m. Friday and found a small black Nike bag; inside that bag the SRO found a loaded 9mm handgun.

The gun was not reported stolen.

Chambliss was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm on school grounds. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he is being held on $4,000 bond. His booking photo was not available at press time.
