TAVARES, Fla. — A 26-year-old Leesburg man was shot and killed outside a residence at Caroline Court apartments early Sunday, according to the Tavares Police Department.
TPD responded to the complex at 1000 East Caroline Street around 2:20 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a man had been shot.
Officers arrived about four minutes later and found De’Angelo Donta McKnight suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police, Lake County EMS and Tavares Fire Department attempted lifesaving measures on scene and McKnight was transported to AdventHealth Waterman, where he later died.
Preliminary information showed McKnight was standing outside the front door of a residence when a vehicle entered the complex. Two masked individuals approached McKnight and shot him before fleeing in the vehicle, police said.
