LEESBURG, Fla.—Leesburg Police Department is investigating the death of teenager found Sunday.
LPD patrol officers responded to Berry Park on a report of a possible shooting victim, shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday, LPD Chief Joe Iozzi said. When they arrived, they found Juan Gomez, 18, of Grand Island, with at least one gunshot wound.
Leesburg Fire Rescue and EMS responded, and Gomez was pronounced dead on the scene, Iozzi said. Crime scene investigators and LPD detectives responded and detectives are following up on leads.
The West Leesburg Community Development Corporation released a statement Sunday.
“We are aware of the situation at Berry Park and understand the community’s concern. Please allow LPD the time and space to conduct a thorough investigation. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.”
