Paisley teen dies after being found unresponsive in Indian River

EDGEWATER, Fla. — The Volusia Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 16-year-old Paisley boy who was found unresponsive in the Indian River on Saturday.

Hunter McKelvin was discovered face-down near an island east of Menard-May Park in Edgewater on Saturday morning, VSO said Sunday. He was on a camping and fishing trip with friends, who performed CPR and transported him by boat to the park. Edgewater police and EMS personnel took over life-saving efforts there and transported McKelvin to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:30 a.m.

McKelvin had no visible injuries, and the circumstances do not appear suspicious, VSO said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, and the investigation remains active pending those results.
