SUMTER COUNTY, Fla.—The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a golf cart crash that killed two people Friday night.
Around 9:30 p.m., a 64-year-old Lady Lake man was driving a golf cart westbound on County Road 109 and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27, FHP said.
The golf cart collided with a Kia Soul that was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 27 and overturned. The golf cart driver, and his passenger, a 58-year-old woman of The Villages, were transported to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries, according to FHP.
The driver of the Kia, a 23-year-old woman of Eustis, and a passenger, a 1-year-old boy of Leesburg, suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital; a second passenger in the Kia, a 19-year-old Belleview man, was not injured, FHP said.
