Newlywed Charged with Battering 70-year-old Husband

LEESBURG, Florida—A 66-year-old woman was arrested Saturday after scratching her 70-year-old husband because she thought he hid her phone and cigarette lighters, according to an arrest affidavit.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Crossways Drive shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday on a report of a domestic disturbance. The victim told LCSO his wife, Mary Louise Anderson—who he married earlier this month—is an alcoholic and had gotten drunk. She became angry with him over the phone and lighters and scratched his arm and caused multiple abrasions, the affidavit states.

A deputy tried to speak with Anderson, “but she was obviously very intoxicated and when I would try to speak with her, she would just scream threats and racial slurs,” he noted in the affidavit.

Anderson was arrested for domestic battery on a person over 65 and transported to the Lake County Jail, where she was released on $10.000 bond.
