Pedestrian killed before daybreak Monday

DeLAND, Fla.—A pedestrian walking in the road was struck and killed by a pickup truck before daylight Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 51-year-old DeLand man was walking northbound on Lake Mack Drive just south of Evergreen Drive in the Lake Mack area of unincorporated DeLand just after 5 a.m., when he was struck by a 2015 Ford F-150 being driven by a 35-year-old man, also of DeLand, Trooper Migdalisis Garcia said.

The pedestrian was transported to AdventHealth DeLand, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver and his passenger, a 1-year-old boy, were not injured, Garcia said. The crash remains under investigation.
