EUSTIS, Fla. — A grocery store favorite is returning to Eustis.
The Winn-Dixie Company confirmed to Inside Lake Friday morning it is returning to the city it called home for decades, but an opening date has not been released.
“The Winn-Dixie Company is excited to confirm plans to open a new grocery store in Eustis, marking another significant step in the grocer’s continued investment and growth across Florida,” the company’s Media Relations team said in an email to Inside Lake.
According to a lease obtained by Inside Lake, the store, along with a liquor store, will be located in the former Big Lots at 401 Plaza Drive in Eustis. Spirit Halloween is currently occupying the space.

Longtime Eustis resident B.E. Thompson first shared news of Winn-Dixie’s return on social media, posting, “If you’ve missed Winn-Dixie, a new one is coming back to Eustis!”
Winn-Dixie’s footprint has shrunk considerably in recent years, with dozens of stores closing permanently and scores of others closing as Winn-Dixie locations to be converted to ALDI stores. ALDI plans to convert approximately 220 former Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations by the end of 2027.
The former Winn-Dixie on State Road 19 in Eustis reopened this week as an ALDI, while the former Tavares Winn-Dixie is in the process of being converted.
The new Eustis store comes as Winn-Dixie mounts a comeback across Florida. A Keystone Heights location held its grand opening earlier this month, a store in Alachua is expected to open later this year and a Zephyrhills location is scheduled to open in 2027.
“Together, these investments reflect Winn-Dixie’s bold and intentional vision for growth and its commitment to strategically investing in the communities that have shaped its story while creating more opportunities to serve customers across the Sunshine State,” Winn-Dixie said.
“We look forward to sharing more details about the Eustis location, including timing and store features, as plans progress.”
