EUSTIS, Fla. — A Eustis man has been arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in connection with a 2024 crash that killed a Umatilla man, the Florida Highway Patrol said Saturday.
According to FHP, at 11:56 p.m. Nov. 1, 2024, Michael David Davis, of Eustis, was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 the wrong way in the eastbound lane of State Road 44 when he struck a 2024 Harley-Davidson Sportster head-on near Hammond Lane. The 20-year-old rider, of Umatilla, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second motorcyclist, a 41-year-old Umatilla man riding a 2003 Suzuki VL800K, swerved to avoid the crash and laid the bike down, FHP said. He was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford with non-life-threatening injuries.
Davis was not injured.
FHP has not released details about the investigation that led to the arrest.
Davis, 51, is being held in the Lake County Jail on $100,000 bond.
