LADY LAKE, Fla.— A man is facing several charges, accused of fleeing a traffic crash Saturday night, according to Lady Lake Police Department.
Tyler Davis, 28, is accused of crashing a speeding Chevrolet Tahoe into the back of a Ford F-150 on U.S. Highway 27 near Longview Avenue shortly before 7:45 p.m., Town of Lady Lake Communications Director Elisha Pappacoda.
LLPD responded to the crash and witnesses said the driver fled the scene into nearby woods. Police found the Tahoe abandoned with ammunition inside, along with an empty prescription bottle and property linked to Davis, Pappacoda said.
Officers searched the area and deployed a drone that detected heat in an area with dense brush. Davis, who appeared to be intoxicated, was found lying on the ground and transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital for treatment.
Monday, Davis was still in the hospital receiving treatment and will face several charges when he is released, including possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, Pappacoda said. He may face a DUI charge, pending the results of a blood alcohol test.
“Our officers showed exceptional professionalism during a chaotic scene,” LLPD Chief Steve Hunt said. “Their decision to deploy the drone allowed us to quickly locate the individual and bring this situation to a safe conclusion. This is exactly how technology enhances public safety.”
