Mount Dora Police Nab High School Bicycle Thief in Under an Hour

MOUNT DORA, Florida—A man caught by an assistant principal and on video stealing a Mount Dora High School student’s electric bicycle Thursday morning was found by Mount Dora Police officers less than 30 minutes after the theft and only a half of a mile away, according to an arrest affidavit.

Rodney Lorenzo Walker, 32, who is listed as 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 285 pounds, was wearing a green and bright yellow long sleeve shirt when he went on the MDHS campus, 700 North Donnelly Street and stole an electric bicycle under the watchful eye of the assistant principal, the affidavit states.

MDPD viewed surveillance video and identified Walker as the thief due to previous interactions, the affidavit states. They canvassed the area and found Walker near 1300 North Grandview Street, just a half a mile away, in possession of the bicycle, valued at $500. He was still wearing the green and yellow shirt.

Walker, who has numerous prior convictions for theft, was taken into custody and arrested for trespassing on school grounds and theft. He is being held at the Lake County Jail on $4,000 bond.
