Eustis Toddler Succumbs to Injuries Following Thursday Crash

EUSTIS, Florida—The toddler struck Thursday afternoon in the driveway of a home in Eustis has passed away, Eustis Police Chief Craig Capri said Friday morning.

The boy was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando around 2:45 p.m. Thursday after he was struck by a full-size truck being driven by a family member, EPD Capt. Jon Fahning told Inside Lake.

The boy, who is not being publicly identified, darted in front of the truck when the family member was moving the truck to the back of the property on Bates Avenue near Eustis Middle School. The driver believed the child was inside the home with another adult.

An EPD officer and a Eustis Fire Department lieutenant were both in the area on separate assignments and immediately responded to the scene to render aid to the boy, sources told Inside Lake.

It appears to be a tragic accident, Fahning said, and there were no signs the driver was impaired. The incident remains under investigation, Capri said.
