GROVELAND, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed two Mascotte teens early Sunday morning.
A 19-year-old Mascotte man was driving a 2018 Dodge Challenger southbound on County Road 565 in the area of Sloans Ridge Road near Groveland when he lost control, troopers said. The Dodge left the roadway, struck multiple trees and became engulfed in flames around 12:45 a.m. The driver and his passenger, a 17-year-old Mascotte boy, were both killed, FHP said.
The crash was the second fatal crash involving fire in Lake County in just a few hours.
Around 8 p.m. Saturday, a 39-year-old Tavares man was killed when a large truck struck the motorcycle he was riding head-on in Sorrento, throwing him into the path of another vehicle. A 27-year-old Hobe Sound man driving a 2008 Ford F-650 eastbound on State Road 44 crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2023 Indian Roadmaster motorcycle head-on, FHP said. The motorcyclist was thrown into the path of a 2017 Toyota Highlander and was killed.
The driver of the Ford was seriously injured. The driver of the Toyota, a 63-year-old Apopka woman, was not injured.
Both crashes remain under investigation
