BREAKING NEWS: Man shot, killed by deputy in Leesburg

LEESBURG, Fla. — A man is dead after he was shot by a Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy before daybreak Sunday.

At approximately 6:19 a.m., a 911 caller reported someone had been stabbed multiple times. Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and officers with Leesburg Police Department responded to 2415 Montclair Road, LCSO Public Information Officer Stephanie Earley said.

Bystanders pointed in the direction the alleged suspect fled on foot, and a deputy located Timotheus Reed, 38, Earley said. During the encounter, the deputy shot Reed.

He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

No other details were released. The deputy was not injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, also standard procedure.
