Eustis detectives investigating apparent suicide near US Highway 441 overpass

EUSTIS, Fla. — A death investigation is underway in Eustis after a person was found hanging from a tree Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded at 1:18 p.m. to the area of State Road 19A and the U.S. Highway 441 overpass after a passerby reported seeing the individual, according to Eustis Police Department Chief Craig Capri.

The individual had been at the location for several hours and was beyond life-saving measures, Capri said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation unit responded to process the scene, and the body will be turned over to the medical examiner’s office. Eustis detectives are continuing to investigate, but there is no evidence of foul play and police believe it was a suicide, Capri said.

The person’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
