FHP: Preliminary findings indicate woman fell from SR 429

SORRENTO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body Wednesday after preliminary findings indicated she fell from State Road 429.

Around 7:15 a.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office  received a report of a body found in a grassy area near State Road 46 and Sleepy Bear Lane, LCSO Deputy Stephanie Earley said. Deputies responded, and found a 49-year-old DeBary woman, who was pronounced deceased by Lake EMS/Fire Rescue.

LCSO detectives and crime scene investigators responded, and the case was later turned over to FHP. The preliminary investigation determined the woman fell from State Road 429 onto the south shoulder of State Road 46, FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi told Inside Lake.  There is a 20-to-30-foot drop between the two roads, she said.

There is no evidence another vehicle or foul play was involved, Crescenzi said. The medical examiner will determine whether the woman suffered a medical episode, and toxicology results will show whether she was intoxicated.

A vehicle found near the woman was taken into evidence, but she is not the registered owner. Investigators are working to determine whether she was driving the vehicle prior to her death and looking through toll camera footage for clues. There are cameras in the area of State Road 429 where she fell, but they provide only a live feed, Crescenzi said.
