Woman Susepected Of Overdosing While Driving On CR 437, Arrested For DUI

SORRENTO, Florida—A woman found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a car on the side of a popular highway, was given a dose of Narcan, cleared by hospital staff, and arrested for DUI last week, according to an arrest affidavit.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Lake County Fire Rescue responded to a call from a passenger in a Toyota Camry who believed the driver overdosed while driving on County Road 437, north of State Road 44. Emergency personnel found Kaley Noel Barber, 31, of Orlando unresponsive with the car running. She was removed from the vehicle and regained consciousness after she was given Narcan.

The passenger told LCSO she and the Barber stopped at a nearby gas station, and she went inside while Barber stayed in the car; when the passenger returned and Barber began to back the car up, the passenger noticed she was “quiet,” the affidavit states. As Barber pulled onto County Road 437, she became unresponsive and the passenger “shoved it into park,” got out and went to the driver’s side where she saw Barber’s lips turning blue. She called 9-1-1 and tried to render aid to Barber until help arrived. She told LCSO she found a syringe next to Barber’s right thigh and she placed it on the console.

The syringe was collected for evidence and Barber was transported to AdventHealth Waterman and cleared by emergency department staff. She taken to the Lake County Jail and released on her own recognizance the following day.
