9:15 a.m. update: LCSO Bomb Squad examined the package and found it to be empty. Downtown Eustis is reopened.
EUSTIS, Florida-a large portion of downtown Eustis is currently shut down due to a suspicious package.
Around 7:15 a.m. Friday, an employee of Bay Pharmacy found a suspicious package sitting on top of a garbage can near the pharmacy.
The employee called Eustis Police Department, who responded immediately and asked for assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad.
EPD Chief Craig Capri said the department immediately shut down traffic to both vehicles and pedestrians, “We are treating it as a suspicious package.”
Numerous onlookers could be seen outside watching the action.
“I have full confidence in the Lake County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad. They are the best in the business,” Capri told Inside Lake on scene.
